NeighborSpace hired ULC to help create Jardin Esperanza, a new park in the Little Village Neighborhood of Chicago.   ULC worked closely with NeighborSpace and local community leaders to help create a nature play themed playground for the neighborhood.

Grow Greater Englewood and NeighborSpace hired ULC to help Englewood Village Farms, a for-profit farming enterprise in the Englewood neighborhood, envision the creation of numerous urban farm plots along the 1.7 mile 59^th Street elevated trail.   Their vision is to build the local economy and connect the residents to healthy green space.  Central to this development ULC designed a gathering area that will include demonstration farm plots a market and community space linked to the 59^th Street trail.

Trust for Public Land (TPL) hired ULC to quickly develop concept plans and renderings to present to a potential donor for a proposed new park that is the west terminus of the existing 606 trail.  Unique elements include areas to display art, boardwalk, observation/sledding hill and rain gardens.

Designed a themed park including customized playground roofs that represent famous Chicago skyscrapers, a water feature with a 40-foot custom mosaic wall, shaded picnic tables and a large open turf area for general play for 44th Ward, Alderman Tunney who had worked with the advisory council to develop plans for a new park in the underserved West Lakeview area costing $3.65 million.

With a shortage of open spaces for families and children to enjoy the outdoors in Little Village, Neighbor-Space hired ULC to create a place where young people can explore nature and experience play through a non-traditional playground design called a Play Garden.

Designed and managed the construction of a central gathering area, including a 1000 square foot patio and a shade structure, for a large community garden, bringing together a diversity of gardeners, including students from a nearby city college, members of the Global Garden, and over 50 individuals with garden plots.

Used principles of placemaking to engage the surrounding community to build ownership while envisioning and coming to consensus on improvements for their neighborhood park.

After working for Jacobs Ryan Associates to implement the landscape design of Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, the Chicago Park District hired ULC to oversee that the warrantee replacement plants, maintenance and overall design integrity was maintained…..

Managed the landscape contractor for the installation of 1469 Shade Trees, 4815 ornamental trees and shrubs, 188,652 perennial, grasses and vines, and 56,500 bulbs for this $95 million trail/park project extending 2.7 miles through four communities.
